I am in the process to begin a research project on how to apply the BSC Methodology for a Law Firm (as well as for a Legal Department of a Corporate Office).
I have a fair knowledge of the BSC. At this time, may be I am looking for some papers, references, case studies &/or experiences around the world about Law firms (or Legal Dept) that are using BSC, KPI, and/or Scorecards as a way to execute their strategies.
Presently, I am preparing a survey to interview at least 5 law firms in each country of the Andean Region, and Central America (7 Countries in total).
If there is any additional comments, suggestions, references, feedback and help I will appreciate very much.

Best regards,

Lino Clemente R (lino_clemente@cantv.net)

In his recent article "Driving the New Management Meeting with Technology", BSCC consultant Travis Manzione, states: "Those who view the Balanced Scorecard as just another reporting tool relegate the BSC to the traditional monthly staff meeting, whose primary purpose is operational control. In this kind of meeting, the discussion of scorecard performance revolves around individual performance measures, not an integrated performance picture."

While I can readily understand that in operational meetings short term issues take precedence over long term issues, I wonder if Travis observation that "the discussion of scorecard performance revolves around individual performance measures, not an integrated performance picture" could be elaborated.

Assuming that each objective owner reports on the measures he is held accountable for, would n't such a process result in an integrated performance picture? While I understand that there are issues of causal interrelationships and synchronization of progress, won't these issues naturally arise, as the objective owners attempt to diagnose discrepancies in progress or propose tactics to improve performance vis a vis their metrics?
